Lent 2023: Baptism and the Cross

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
This Lent we will have two opportunities to encounter God’s word.
On Sundays we will be exploring the Gospel of John and the meaning of Baptism through several figures in John’s gospel: Nicodemus (chapter 3), the woman at the well (chapter 4), and Lazarus (chapter 11).
On the Wednesdays of Lent we will be reflecting on “Words from the Cross,” the seven last sayings of Jesus before his death. This year we will participate again in a round-robin rotation with different preachers from area Lutheran congregations.
Lent begins on Ash Wednesday: February 22. St. Peter is hosting our Wednesday worship services this year.

Don’t Get Scammed

Several of my pastor friends and colleagues have been targeted by “phishing” scams. A phishing scam is when someone pretends to be someone else to solicit money. A common way this happens is requesting gift cards by email or by text. Here are some things you can do to avoid being targeted:

  • Don’t fall for this scam. I will never request gift cards or cash gifts.
  • Don’t share church directories or other personal information with strangers.
  • If you have a question of whether not a request came from me or from the church, just reach out to us by phone. Never respond to emails or texts that you’re not sure about.
